The words masculine and feminine have some odd connotations.
Stereotypes that define masculinethings as strong and powerful and feminineentities as frail and weak deliver a warped view of the truth.
However, the reality is that masculinity and femininity are two unique forms of energy. Every human being has a combination of these two concepts swirling within them. It’s your dynamic mixture of different energies that makes you special.
Masculine and feminine energy have nothing to do with gender.
The idea that all women have feminine energy, and all men have masculine energy is broken.
Somemen and women will fall into their stereotypical categories, but even largely “feminine” women will have masculine elements about them.
So, how do you balance masculine and feminine energy?
Masculine vs feminine energy: Both energies are strengths
Neither feminine energy nor masculine energy is a weakness.
Even if you consider yourself to be a masculine woman or a feminine man, that’s not a bad thing.
It’s time for everyone to get a better understand how these two polarities exist together inside of us. The “men are from mars and women are from Venus” cliché is outdated. Neurologically, we are all a mixture of different energies: the science proves it.
One neuroscience professional, Professor Simon Baron-Cohen believes that everyone exists on a spectrum between “Systimisers” and Empathisers”. Systemisers analyseexperiences step-by-step, focusing closely on one task at a time. This is a kind of “masculine” energy.
Empathisers are great at understanding how other people feel and mastering emotions. This is in line with feminine energy.
Baron-Cohen’s research revealed that 17% of women have systemising brains, and 44% have empathizing brands. Around 35% have a balance of both. Alternatively, 53% of men have systemizing brands, 17% have empathizing brains, and 24% are balanced.
Understanding your masculine and feminine energy
So, how do you know how much masculine and feminine energy exists in you?
Interestingly, it’s not a two-way split. There are actually four “divine energies” that make up your personality. These include Greater and Lesser Yin: two forms of feminine energy, and Greater and Lesser Yang: the masculine energy.
Greater Yin: Feminine energy
Yin is the term spiritual professionals use to refer to the “empathising” brain associated with feminine energy. People with greater Yin are ruled largely by emotion. You might be sensitive to the people around you, and often display introverted tendencies.
Greater Yin isn’t a bad thing. You’re great at being transparent and authentic with people, and you can connect deeply with others. When you master balancing energies within you, people feel comforted in your presence. Unfortunately, there are downsides too.
A sensitivity to emotion means that people with Greater Yin often take off the pain of others. It’s difficult for you to move past things that hurt your feelings, and you may struggle to see things logically.
Balancing Energy: Greater Yin
To balance your Greater Yin energy, you need to nurture your emotional side. Meditate, journal your thoughts, and set time aside for you to simply sit in your own feelings – not worrying about others. You might need to cry at times or have moments of anger, and that’s okay.
Create a space in your mind for your feelings and allow yourself to analyse them. You can also get rid of some of your excess energy by volunteering, performing random acts of kindness, and just being there for others. You have a lot of compassion to give.
Lesser Yin: Fluid feminine energy
Lesser Yin still exists in the feminine space, but it’s more fluid. Although you have an empathetic soul, you’re also very well-balanced. You’re more creative than analytical, and still somewhat introverted, but you can go with the flow when necessary.
You may find that you don’t like to take charge often with lesser Yin energy. Instead, you create safe spaces for you wherever you go. You’re fluid with your feelings, and you’re happy to advocate for people who can’t speak out for themselves.
Unfortunately, going with the flow can mean that you don’t always take charge of your own life. This can lead to feelings of bitterness and resentment if you’re not balancing energy types regularly.
You may have a tendency to jump to conclusions and even make up stories in your head based on what you believe.
Balancing Energy: Lesser Yin
Creative projects will be useful for you. They’re a chance for you to let out some of your inner thoughts. Journaling and painting will give you an insight into your spiritual growth. You’ll feel comfortable devoting yourself to something and showing off the results.
Just like with greater Yin feminine energy, you’ll need to dedicate time to yourself. Me-time and self-care is essential here. A little bit of time to yourself can go a long way.
Boundaries are also essential for you. Without them, you might find that you end up hurting yourself in relationships or getting hurt by others too easily.
Greater Yang: Masculine energy
Greater Yang is the most “masculine” energy. Yang is assertive, accomplished, dominant, and goal-oriented. This energy is associated with power and activity.
You may have a lot of confidence and feel comfortable when you’re in leadership positions. You think and dream big in everything you do.
Your confident energy makes it easy for you to accomplish a lot without getting burned out. You can tap into the bigger picture and see what your efforts accomplish for the world around you.
You might also have a strong constitution, which means that you rarely get sick. Motivation and drive always keeps you going.
Unfortunately, it’s also easy for you to feel failed by other people. People know that you’re often going to do a better job than them, so they don’t try and help you out.
Although you know what you want, you don’t know how to ask for help, or connect with people who are trying around you.
It’s also worth making sure that your greater Yang energy doesn’t burn you out. It’s often tempting for people with this kind of masculine energy to overextend themselves and give too much.
Balancing Energy: Greater Yang
Lean into your strengths. The sooner you feel comfortable with the fact that you’re a strong and focused leader, the easier it will be for others to follow suit.
Don’t push yourself further than you can go, though. Delegate and help other people to achieve their goals too. But don’t make yourself responsible for other people’s success.
Get comfortable watching other people make their own mistakes. This will ensure that you don’t feel as disappointed by the people around you. It’s also worth taking time to teach other people and give them guidance when they ask for it.
However, don’t push yourself into someone’s life without their invitation.
Lesser Yang: Fluid masculine energy
Finally, lesser yang is the slightly less aggressive masculine energy that many of us have. This kind of person is a little more extroverted and dominant, with a tendency to work at a fast pace. You’re probably a kindhearted and open-minded person.
However, you also expect more from life than other people.
You like being active and creative, and you have a habit of drawing people to you. Your curiosity pushes you to discover new strengths and continue growing all the time. You have a great balance between fierce confidence and the ability to adapt.
Because you have extra masculine energy in you, however, you must use it wisely.
You might start to feel trapped or anxious even when things are going well, simply because you expect more. You might feel ungrateful for the blessings around you.
In some cases, you might sabotage a healthy relationship or job because you want something to fix.
Balancing Energy: Lesser Yang
To balance your lesser yang personality, nurture your curiosity and sense of adventure. Join classes and discover new hobbies. Explore different things that you might never have considered before, even if it means learning a foreign language, or investing in bitcoin.
Whatever you do, the chances are that you’ll eventually get bored or outgrow your passion and need something new. There’s nothing wrong with that.
Keep exploring and finding adventure in a healthy format. This will reduce your chances of sabotaging other things that work for you.
Remember, just because you’re the life of the party doesn’t mean that you always have to be part of a group, either. You can also set aside time for yourself to be introverted too.
